Winter is always challenging on the hands. The cold, dry weather saps moisture from delicate nail beds that can result in cracking and peeling, leaving hands hurting. This DIY cuticle oil only takes a few minutes to make, smells incredible, and helps to strengthen nails, making it a win-win in the DIY gifting department!
Which Oils are the Best for Cuticles?
When it comes to skin-loving, cuticle-friendly oils, there is no shortage of choices, but my favorites are olive oil, grape seed oil, and jojoba oil. They are all relatively easy to find, nourishing, lightweight, and absorb well.Â
Other alternatives include almond oil, castor oil, or avocado oil. However, if you don’t have all of the oils on hand, you can always create this recipe using just olive oil.Â
What are the Best Essential Oils for Nails and Cuticles?
There are a number of essential oils that are great for nails and cuticles. For this recipe, I’ve selected lavender, rosemary, and lemon, but other options include:
Frankincense - is anti-fungal and has a history of being used to promote nail growth.
Geranium - helps moisturize nails and cuticles while promoting healthy nail growth.Â
Lavender - strengthens brittle nails that are prone to breakage.
Myrrh - protects nails from becoming brittle and enhances their resistance to breakage.
Lemon - reputed to harden nails as well as reduce peeling and other damage.Â
Rosemary - moisturizing, disinfecting, hydrating and antifungal
Tea Tree - antiseptic, anti-fungal, and moisturizing to both the cuticle and the nails.Â
